Documentary: PieceforPeace Quilts for Ukrainian Children
It was once ….. a spontaneous idea: when the first families from Ukraine arrived in Krefeld at the end of February 2020, Claudia Pfeil wanted to sew a quilt in the Ukrainian colors blue and yellow for some of the children. It should be nice and cozy, with blocks that tell stories, a quilt as a gesture of welcome and comfort in a foreign country.
The call for blue and yellow fabric squares in the social networks triggered an “avalanche”: Blocks began arriving in envelopes and parcels from all over the world. The hoped-for number of 200 blocks was far exceeded: More than 28,000 blocks , meters of fabric, finished quilts reached Claudia’s quilt studio. All entries, quilts and distributions to the children were documented and photographed.
From more than 2000 pictures, a photo documentation has now been created, which will be shown for the first time in the Alte Brotfabrik, moderated by Claudia Pfeil.
Numerous finished PieceforPeace quilts, blocks and work steps – such as layout, sewing and quilting on the longarm machines – will be on display.
Entry fees will be used to purchase batting and backing, donations are very welcome – there are still about 400 tops to be quilted!
The Quilt Studio team is looking forward to your visit and your interest!
