Twice a year, Claudia Pfeil has to make creative and important decisions: the design and selection of her own new fabric collections. In addition to quilts, the trained textile designer creates her own patchwork fabrics, which can be purchased by the meter, layer cakes and jelly rolls in her studio.
The path to a new collection is always an exciting process. The designs are drawn freehand in black and white, and around 150 to 200 fabric samples are then produced in Bali. Claudia Pfeil uses these fabric samples to put together collections for Island Batik – 20 fabrics in six designs per collection. It takes an average of two and a half years until she finally holds the bales of fabric produced in her hand from the original sketch. Claudia Pfeil designs quilts from her fabric collections with her special signature and color feel. For those interested, she offers suitable patterns to sew in her studio and shop.
