Invitation! German-Ukrainian Sewing-Festival #PieceforPeace

Dear friends – worldwide: As you know, we have been working tirelessly for 22 months on the “PieceforPeace” project – quilts for Ukrainian children.

The completed patchwork quilts measure 1.10 m x 1.30 m and will be donated to Ukrainian refugee children here locally, as well as to hospitals and mother and child homes in Ukraine as a sign of support.
So far, 700 completed quilts have already been donated and distributed, and a total of 1,400 patchwork quilts will be made for Ukrainian children as part of the #PieceforPeace campaign.

Now we are going one step further – we are organizing the 1st German-Ukrainian Sewing Festival in the rooms of the Quilt Studio in the Alte Brotfabrik! You are cordially invited!

Sewing together – meeting, music and culinary delights from Ukraine
December 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
in the Quilt-Studio & Gallery “Alte Brotfabrik”, Ritterstr. 183
Official opening, Saturday, November 2 at 11 a.m.

The sewing festival under the patronage of Iryna Shum, Consul General of Ukraine and Krefeld’s Lord Mayor Frank Meyer invites you to make patchwork quilts for Ukrainian children from the #PieceforPeace blocks sent in worldwide.

Patchwork blocks – small textile works of art
Following our appeal in February 2022, we received over 28,850 patchwork blocks with various motifs in the colors of the Ukrainian flag from 27 countries.
The many international submissions not only show the differences in international design through their artistic versatility, but also convey the emotions and sympathies of the many participating seamstresses who expressed their sympathy and hope for Ukrainian children through their work worldwide and then sent them to Krefeld.
There will be various stations in the studio at the festival where you can get active and turn the fabric squares into blankets. Whether at the sewing machines, cutting, ironing or putting together the different layouts – there is something for everyone. Beginners, advanced sewers and even “non-sewers” are very welcome.

Encounters, music & culinary delights from Ukraine
This weekend will also focus on discussions, integration and cultural exchange.
The Ukrainian cultural association “Kobsar” e.V. is organizing an extensive cultural program in the Quilt Studio and offering typical Ukrainian culinary delicacies.

The event is supported by the city of Krefeld and the Bernina company, which is providing several sewing machines on loan.

Admission is free! However, donation boxes will be happy to be “fed” 😉

I look forward to seeing you…. and to a creative and inspiring weekend!

Yours, Claudia Pfeil
