Boteh is the Persian name for the paisley motif. The background of the quilt consists of 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 cm squares, 1 x 2 cm rectangles and 1 x 3 cm rectangles. Black and white pieced strips seperate the areas of the inner and outer borders.
The paisleys are painted with ink pens on white silk and applied to the background.
The quilting is based entirely on the painted motifs - black silk yarn emphasizes the contours of the filigree patterns.
